Take some time to get familiar with the job search sites. You don’t want to waste any time or lose out on an opportunity because you don’t know the ins and outs of a specific site. By taking a good look at how different sites operate, you’ll be able to get a better sense of what is available and what you can do to customize or narrow down your search.

In some instances, you may be given the opportunity to submit your resume or job application online.  It’s easy enough to do, but you should definitely proceed with caution. Once you hit the send button, you are more than likely unable to edit your job application or resume. Obviously, you want to be sure everything is accurate prior to submitting your resume or application.

Some companies allow you to e-mail your resume. Be sure you are clear about the delivery method that is acceptable, as some companies request that you do not submit attachments for fear of viruses.  If that is the case, you could be asked to copy and paste your resume into the body of an email. Just in case you are asked to copy/paste, be sure to review your resume to confirm that the original format stayed intact. Or better yet, consider creating a text version of your resume. Have it ready for those instances when you have to copy and paste your resume into a web site form. You can have one created in no time.

If you’re on employer web sites, take advantage of the time to do a bit of research. Get to know a little more about the company, any new initiatives, and about the industry. This will come in handy at interview time. You can also find out about any new industry trends, which will be helpful to you if you decide you want to get additional training or certifications.

Of course the above mentioned are tips that you will want to use when searching for a job online. Remember though that you should use your own best judgment.  If a job sounds too good to be true, it could be a scam. Do your due diligence just to be sure.
